Opening of the 2012 Artists By The River exhibition. The Artists by the River project involves 22 artists with disability who created their artwork alongside and under the tutelage of teaching artists and visiting guest artists at the gallery.
"The exhibition continues to attract interest from the local community every year", Commission Accommodation Services Executive Director Wendy Cox said.
"The project had been warmly embraced by all who took part, including the artists, their support workers, friends and family, the tutor and the local community", added Bevan Dellar, Chair of the Fairholme Disability Support Group, which helps facilitate the project.
"What's beautiful about the environment is that everyone's an artist. It doesn't matter if you have a disability or not, it's about an inclusive community and that's what we're creating here," Mr Dellar said.
The Artists by the River project is a partnership between the Disability Services Commission, the Melville Community Arts Association, Fairholme Disability Support Group and four Rotary clubs
