Korcula, Croatia

233 images Created 28 Mar 2011

First settled by Mesolithic and Neolithic peoples, the island of Korcula is in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County of Croatia.
Steeped in history and legend, the ancient fortified town of Korcula on the island is believed to be the birthplace of Marco Polo. It definitely IS the birthplace of the Moreska (pronounced Moreshka), an ancient traditional sword dance.
Sheldon's grandfather and grandmother were born in the village of Zrnovo, on Korcula. Here a selection of Sheldon's portfolio of photographs of Korcula . . . including Zrnovo of course.
